Great Florida Backyard Bioblitz: LIVE with Carlton Ward, Jr

GFBB FB Event Live 5-7-20png.png

Conservation Florida and UF Thompson Earth Systems Institute’s Scientist in Every Florida School program are partnering to bring the Great Florida Backyard Bioblitz online! Together, we’ll explore the backyards and neighborhoods of some *very cool* Floridians through the use of Zoom and Facebook Live.

The live series was created for families with school-aged children. However, anyone can take part in the free webinars and Facebook Live events.

Join us on Thursday, May 7th at 3 p.m. for the third in this series.

Your hosts will be Traci Deen, Conservation Florida’s executive director. Brian Abramowitz and Stephanie Killingsworth, K-12 education and outreach coordinators for Scientist in Every Florida School will also be on hand to help field questions from participants. They’ll be joined by special guest Carlton Ward!

About our guest: Carlton Ward Jr is a conservation photographer and National Geographic Explorer whose passion for nature was born from the Florida landscape. His mission is to inspire appreciation and protection of Florida’s original nature and culture – the endangered wildness that is often hidden in plain sight but very much needs our attention to be saved. He founded the Florida Wildlife Corridor project in 2010 and has since trekked thousands of miles during filmed expeditions to advocate for the corridor’s protection. Recent honors include receiving the Conservation Leadership Award from the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida, being named a Florida Icon by Florida Trend magazine and serving as the Rolex Artist in Exploration with the Explorers Club.

An eighth-generation Floridian, Ward has developed strong connections with conservation organizations, researchers, and landowners. He is now working as an ambassador for the recovery of the Florida panther, a plan that calls for conservation of hundreds of thousands of acres of ranchlands and forests and across Florida. The Path of the Panther project has been Carlton’s full-time focus since 2016, supported by grants from the National Geographic Society and numerous partners.
